Reiki is an Energy

The Physical body is made up of Electromagnetic energy and every cell, atom and subatomic particle that makes up the human body is vibrating at different rates depending upon their biochemical make up.

The electromagnetic output of the whole body can be measured using an electro-myograph, and the normal biological frequency for the human body is around 250 cps (cycles per second). Some research was conducted and most people recorded the normal range, around 250 cps, but when the same tests were conducted on people who used Reiki, it was found that their frequencies registered in a band between 400 and 800 cps.

What is interesting is that science has finally confirmed that an unseen energy flows through and connects all living things. This energy has various names depending upon the culture or tradition: Ki (Japanese), Chi or Qi (Chinese), Prana (Indian) or Holy Spirit (Christian). I will refer to it as Ki as I am specifically talking about Reiki which is a Japanese tradition.

The human body is something that we all know about – we can see it and feel it – yet every cell in it is still energy, vibrating at a slow enough rate to make it into visible physical matter. However surrounding our body is another body of energy made up on finer and lighter vibrations which is commonly called the aura. This field is as much a part of you as your physical body – your physical body is really just the densest inner layer of this flowing energy field. In addition to the aura, our energy body contains some energy centres known as chakras and a range of energy channels flowing through the body called meridians.

The Aura surrounds the body on all sides. It is made up on seven layers with the inner layers closest to the physical body. This aura is not always the same size, it can expand or contract depending upon a variety of factors such as how healthy you are, how you are feeling emotionally or psychologically or how comfortable you feel with the people who are in your immediate surroundings.

The Chakra's is a Sanskrit word meaning wheel or vortex and there are 7 major chakras in the human energy body. Chakra's are an essential part of our body’s energy system, because they are intimately connected with our physical health. Each is linked with specific parts of the body and to systems within the body.  Our chakras, like your aura, are affected by everything that happens to us – good things as well as bad.

The Meridians are the final component of the human energy body. The easiest way to describe is that they are the energy equivalent of the arteries and veins. Meridians are the channels that carry the energy around our body. It is on these Meridians that the various points exist which are used in complementary therapies such as acupuncture or acupressure; or that connect all parts of the body with the areas on the feet and hands used in reflexology.
