Autumn Equinox: Honouring Balance, Harvest, and Letting Go

The Autumn Equinox arrives as a threshold moment in the year. A perfect balance of day and night, light and dark. It marks the turning of the wheel toward the slower, quieter seasons, inviting us to pause, ground, and reflect.

This is the time to celebrate both the fullness of what has grown and the gentle release of what no longer serves. Just as the trees shed their leaves, we too are reminded to let go, not in loss, but in trust that the cycle will bring renewal again.

Symbolism of the Equinox

  • Balance: Equal day and night remind us to seek steadiness within ourselves between giving and receiving, doing and being.

  • Harvest: A time to honour the fruits of your inner and outer labour, and to give thanks.

  • Release: As leaves fall, we are guided to loosen our grip on what feels heavy or outdated.

Simple Rituals for the Equinox

  • Light a candle at dusk to honour both light and shadow, welcoming balance into your life.

  • Gather seasonal foods, apples, pears, pumpkins, courgettes, runner beans, leeks (the list is endless) and create a meal of gratitude.

  • Sit quietly outdoors, breathing in the crisp air, and let your breath carry away what you’re ready to release.

  • Place Red Jasper (the grounding stone of this season) in your hand or on your altar to anchor yourself.

Spiritual Meaning

The Autumn Equinox invites us into the archetype of the Wise One, the part of ourselves that knows cycles are natural, endings are sacred, and rest is fertile ground for renewal. It is a time of integration: to notice what has bloomed, to bless what is falling away, and to embrace the stillness ahead.

Rituals to Support You

  • Journalling: What am I ready to release with love? What am I harvesting and celebrating?

  • Movement: Take a slow, grounding walk. Imagine your feet rooting into the Earth with every step.

  • Meditation: Visualise yourself standing at a threshold, equal light on one side and shadow on the other. Breathe balance into your heart.

  • Sound & Reiki: Allow vibration and energy to soothe your nervous system, restoring harmony.

Journal Reflections

  • Where in my life am I craving balance?

  • What fruits of my labour am I ready to celebrate?

  • What old story or pattern am I ready to gently let go of?

Oracle Card Guidance

Draw a card with the intention: “What wisdom is ready to emerge as I step into balance?”Reflect on:

  1. What am I learning from this season of change?

  2. What truth is asking to be acknowledged?

  3. How can I root more deeply in trust?

Growth is Cyclical

Remember: The Equinox doesn’t ask us to have it all together. It invites us into harmony with the cycles of nature and the cycles within ourselves. There is no rush. There is rhythm. Balance is not perfection; it is a continual dance of adjustment and return.

Close your eyes. Breathe. Anchor into this moment. Know that you are held: in light, in dark, in all that you are.

“The Equinox doesn’t demand perfection, it whispers harmony - a dance between light and shadow, pause and pulse. In between, we find ourselves.”
