How Reiki Works: Energy, Chakras & the Call to Heal

One of the most common questions I get asked is: How does Reiki actually work? And it makes sense. We live in a world that often values what can be seen, measured, and explained. Yet Reiki operates in the subtle realm; the space of energy, feeling, and intuition.

In this post, I’ll share what Reiki is, how it works through the chakra system, and why you might be feeling called to learn it for yourself.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese energy healing technique that works with universal life force energy. The same energy that animates all living things. It is not connected to any religion or dogma. Instead, Reiki is a gentle, yet powerful method of reconnecting with your natural ability to self-heal. It can support the body, mind, and emotions by rebalancing your energetic system.

How Does Reiki Work?

Reiki is traditionally shared through light, hands-on (or just above) touch. The practitioner becomes a clear channel for the energy to flow. Reiki goes where it is needed most, without the practitioner directing it mentally. It can soothe the nervous system, clear blocked energy, and create space for emotional and physical healing. Think of it as energy medicine that works beneath the surface.

Reiki and the Chakras

The chakra system is one of the energetic frameworks that Reiki naturally works with. We have seven main chakras, running from the base of the spine to the crown of the head. Each chakra is associated with specific aspects of our physical health, emotional wellbeing, and spiritual connection.

Here's a simple breakdown of how Reiki supports each chakra:

  • Root Chakra (Muladhara): Reiki helps you feel grounded, safe, and supported. If you’re feeling anxious or unsteady, Reiki can bring stability.

  • Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana): It brings flow to your creativity, pleasure, and emotions. Reiki supports emotional release and healthy boundaries.

  • Solar Plexus (Manipura): Your centre of power and self-worth. Reiki helps dissolve shame, self-doubt, and invites a return to inner strength.

  • Heart Chakra (Anahata): Reiki opens the heart, softens grief, and cultivates compassion. A beautiful chakra to work with in times of emotional healing.

  • Throat Chakra (Vishuddha): This is your communication centre. Reiki supports truthful expression, clearing fear of judgement or being misunderstood.

  • Third Eye (Ajna): Reiki helps activate intuition, mental clarity, and vision. It brings a sense of knowing beyond logic.

  • Crown Chakra (Sahasrara): Reiki reconnects you to the divine, to a sense of oneness, and universal peace.

Why You Might Be Called to Learn Reiki

Reiki often arrives in people’s lives during a time of transition, awakening, or inner searching. If you’ve felt more sensitive lately, more attuned to energy, or simply ready to deepen your healing journey, Reiki might be calling you.

Learning Reiki isn’t just about giving it to others. In fact, Reiki 1 is mostly focused on self-healing. It gives you a beautiful framework to connect to your body, your energy, and your emotional wisdom in a daily, grounded way.

Reiki 1 Training: Coming This October

This October, I’ll be holding a Reiki 1 Training (2 days); a heart-led, grounded space to begin your journey with Reiki. This is an invitation to explore the healer within you, and to begin working with energy in a safe, practical, and powerful way.

If you’re curious, drop a message in the comments or DM me and I’ll send you the full details when they’re finalised.

Reiki is not just something you do. It’s something you remember. A return to your natural state of flow, trust, and connection. Whether you receive it or learn it for yourself, Reiki has a way of gently transforming your life from the inside out.

You don’t have to be a healer to learn Reiki. But you might just realise you’ve been one all along.
