WHAT IS REFLEXOLOGY LYMPHATIC DRAINGE?
As a qualified Reflexologist I trained in Reflexology Lymphatic Drainage (RLD), an award winning reflexology technique, with Sally Kay BSc(Hons) who researched and developed it whilst working in Cancer Care. It is a unique sequence that focuses on stimulating the lymphatic reflexes on the feet. The aim is to cause an effect on the lymphatic system in the body.
WHAT IS THE LYMPHATIC SYSTEM?
The lymphatic system is one of the most important systems in our body. Proper functioning of the lymphatic system is critical to our body’s ability to detoxify, nourish and regenerate tissue, filter out metabolic waste and inorganic material, and maintain a healthy immune system.
A well-functioning lymphatic system is important to our health and well-being. The lymph circulates white blood cells which fight infection and contribute to the production of antibodies crucial elements in supporting the immune system. In addition to white blood cells, hormones are also carried throughout the body via lymph.
WHAT IS LYMPHOEDEMA?
Lymphoedema is defined as tissue swelling due to the failure of lymph drainage. After breast cancer a person may experience psychological or emotional difficulties due to altered body image, and a swollen limb can exacerbate this.
WHAT CONDITIONS CAN BENEFIT FROM THIS TECHNIQUE?
Lymphatic drainage massage (MLD) is used to treat conditions other than lymphoedema, and RLD may be used similarly. MLD may be useful with the following conditions:
